CHRISTOPHER SMITH M.D.
Dr. Smith is a fellowship trained, board certified ophthalmologist (a medical doctor who has special training in the medical and surgical treatment of eye disorders) who brings many years of experience as well as up-to-date treatments to Park City.

Upon graduating from the medical school University of Texas Medical Branch in Austin, Texas, Dr. Smith completed an ophthalmology residency program at Saint Louis University where he was named Top Resident in his class and served as the Chief Resident during his training in Saint Louis. He completed one of the top cornea/refractive fellowships in the country at the Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah and was very busy as the only cornea/refractive trained ophthalmologist serving the eastern Montana and Northern Wyoming areas for many years. Dr. Smith acquired Mountain Valley Eye Institute in 2021, intending to maintain excellent eye care to the Park City region.
He provides highly valued ophthalmology expertise including: advanced and routine cataract surgery, premium intraocular lens placement, refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK, and ICL), up-to-date corneal transplantation surgery, pterygium removal, anterior segment surgeries, microinvasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), advanced dry eye care, as well as glaucoma and retina care. He also provides comprehensive eye exams and prescribes glasses and contact lenses.
Dr. Smith has published in multiple ophthalmology journals. He loves teaching and training others and frequently presents at different continuing medical education (CME) conferences. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Board of Ophthalmology, and the Utah Ophthalmology Society.
Dr. Smith is currently providing services in Park City, Utah, as well as Evanston, Wyoming. He is performing surgeries in the Eye Institute of Utah in Salt Lake City, Heber Valley Hospital and Evanston Regional Hospital.
RITA K. DRUMMOND O.D.
Dr. Rita Drummond received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California. Prior to optometry school, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Physiology from the University of California, Davis. She brings over 25 years of clinical experience to the Park City area.

Dr. Drummond successfully completed internships at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California, Kaiser Hospital in Fontana, California, and the Center for Partially Sighted in Santa Monica, California. During her extensive training, Dr. Drummond gained valuable experience in various areas such as primary care and medical optometry, contact lenses, dry eye management, ocular disease, glaucoma, surgical co-management of cataract patients, binocular vision disorders, low vision conditions, and more.
She is trained to fit specialty contact lenses, including rigid gas permeable (RGP) and scleral lenses, for the treatment of keratoconus, severe dry eye, and to improve vision following surgeries such as radial keratotomy and corneal transplants.
In her free time, Dr. Drummond enjoys spending time in nature with animals, exploring different cuisines during her travels, going on date weekends with her husband, and attending large family reunions.
